FRATTE ROSA

Small and charming castle town situated on the top of a hill straddling the Metaur and Cesano valleys which offers a fantastic view which spans from the Apennines to the sea. Its ancient name was Castrum Fractarum whilst the word “Rosa”, perhaps due to the typical colour of the house bricks, was added to the name of the castle only after the 1800s. Fratte Rosa is well-known for its artisan activities which have existed for centuries, from the production of “cocci” (earthenware): such a name deriving from popular origins, refers to the terracotta dometic objects (of a luminescent black colour) which are still produced in this small town. Until 1920 there were 12 bakers.Today the Convent of Santa Vittoria, hosts a thematic museum and a specific technological room.
