A JOURNEY OF 2000 YEARS…to look for Peace

An itinerary which takes us back to the period between the Punic wars and World War II

Three days dedicated to history, with accomodation at the Borgo Montemaggiore hotel.

PROGRAMME

  1. Visitors      arrive on Friday in the early afternoon and settle into their accomodation      of choice. Then then visit the historic town centre. Dinner will consist      of typical Marchegian producuts.
  2. Saturday:      breakfast at the hotel and then transfer to Montemaggiore al Metauro where      tourists will visit the Winston Churchill Museum (History Museum of the      Metauro) -  in 1944 operation      “Olive” started in Montemaggiore which lead to the destruction of the      Germany army’s defence line. In commemoration of this event, the museum      has put together a photograph collection, written testimonies, diaries,      official documents, reliques and military equipment of the time. In the same      lands of the valley, a battle between the Romans and Carthaginians took      place in 207 BC which resulted in the defeat of Hasdrubal and the end of      Hannibal’s miliary campaign in Italy. Lunch will be in a typical      restaurant. In the afternoon tourists will transfer to Fossombrone to      visit the archeological sites. They will return to the hotel in the      evening for dinner.
  3. Sunday:      breakfast will be in the hotel and then transfer to Sant’Ippolito where      tourists will visit a chieseller’s shop/workshop where chiselling is made      on sandstone. Lunch will then take place at a typical restaurant and      activities will come to an end in the afternoon.
